We launched our new Sacred Encounters ministry. This group of volunteers meets each Wednesday (11 AM-1 PM) to walk the streets around downtown Seattle, building relationships with our unhoused sisters and brothers, and providing much-needed donations to those in need. This ministry is open to participation by all in our community, an opportunity the St Pats community has actively embraced.
This new ministry allows our paired parish community to better be a part of what Pope Francis calls a Culture of Encounter with those suffering on the peripheries. Everyone in our parish can and does do their part to help sustain this important effort. We listen and watch to improve our practices, endeavoring to help our friends remember we all live in the same community and there are still people who care. We are everything from an ear and a shoulder for those struggling with suicidal tendencies, muscle and know-how to build new tents, to a consistent source of hugs for our friends and the smiles brought to the faces on our friends are the presence of Jesus himself among us.
